ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course will be entirely devoted to watercolor painting, all sorts of watercolor techniques and tricks, as well as the interaction of watercolor with other materials (not always artistic).

We will learn to fully use the power of watercolor in our works and get acquainted with this inspiring artistic material in all its diversity!

We will create 8 full-fledged A3 art works, as well as several training works.

Each work, as usual, is a finished masterpiece!

This course is one of the fundamental ones for those who seriously want to master the basics of fine art.

The course is conducted interactively, via the Zoom video communication program. It includes 9 lessons held weekly from July 22 to Sept 18, 2025.

Language:

Please, note these lessons will be conducted in Russian.

Price:

$243 for a course of 9 lessons ($27 per lesson), or $33 per lesson if you join occasionally.

Attention!
Due to the holidays in different states start at different times, I take average dates of the beginning and end of the course. If any of the lessons of the course fall on your school holidays, and you will not be able to attend for this reason, then I will provide an opportunity to do the lesson using a recording of the session. There is also the opportunity to make up a missed lesson in another group during the same week (on Tuesday and Thursday during the same week, the lesson topics are repeated).

Lesson times:

  • Every Tuesday, 5:00pm Queensland time (UTC/GMT+10), or
  • Every Thursday, 5:00pm Queensland time (UTC/GMT+10).

The Tuesday group is only formed starting this school term – it will start if enough participants are enrolled to the group.

FOR WHOM THIS COURSE

This course is great for older kids. Recommended age is 8 to 15 years old, but it is individual. Since the format is family-friendly, this means that other family members can participate for free, although without feedback. It turns out that the course is for all aspiring artists in your family.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

In this course, we will learn what is special about watercolor paints and why they are one of the best materials for children’s creativity.

Students will learn to create clear fills and gradients, learn to “tame” unruly watercolors, practice all sorts of techniques: dry on wet, glaze, brushstroke technique, painting with masking fluid, etc.

We will also create a variety of textures, many of which will surely surprise you.

Children will practice both simple exercises and creating more complex paintings, and will even try to paint some scenes very realistically.

The course will be quite bright, which means that in each lesson we will raise questions about the basics of color science.

During the course, children will create 8 original and very diverse works of A3 format and several additional small sketches.

MATERIALS FOR THIS COURSE

– A3 watercolor paper – 9 sheets and A4 – 4 sheets (as a last resort, you can just use very thick white paper, but check it for water resistance: moisten it a little with water and see that there are no wet dark spots, the water stays on the surface for some time)
– a lead pencil, an eraser
– watercolor (in palettes or tubes). The quality of the paints is of great importance!
– a white palette: any plastic or porcelain surface of white color. As a last resort, you can use pieces of white thick paper as a palette.
– watercolor brushes of different sizes (round soft with a pointed tip)

– masking fluid

– old thin brushes for throwing away, which you don’t mind throwing away, or
reusable silicone brushes for applying masking fluid

– calligraphy pen

or

ruling pen

– masking tape about 2-3 cm wide

– black permanent marker

– oil pastels

– to create textures: white table salt, a pinch of rice, bubble wrap (piece), cellophane bag, leaf from a tree; cardboard roll from toilet paper, sponge for art, or for washing dishes clean, old toothbrush;
optional: disinfectant liquid with alcohol in the form of a spray, bottle cork, rectangular part from “Lego” large

– scissors and glue (I recommend PVA + hard brush, but in extreme cases you can use pencil)
– paper towel
– hair dryer
