ABOUT THIS COURSE

In this course, we will learn basics of the basics of the visual arts: drawing with a lead pencil.

This is a foundation course giving you an understanding of how to draw any of your ideas and which guidelines to follow.

The course is conducted interactively, through the video call program Zoom. It consists of 10 lessons, conducted weekly from 26 January till 1 April 2023.

Time of Lessons:

  • Each Thursday, 5:00pm – 6:30pm Queensland time (UTC/GMT+10) (+1 hour in Sydney and Melbourne)
We will get to know what is drawing, what different types of it exist, and how can it help us in our creative work!
We will start to differentiate particularities of lead pencils with different "names" and learn how to use each of them - as per their purpose!
We will actively use such terms as "tone", "hatching", "shading", "gradient", "light", "glare", "shadow", "penumbra", "reflex", "falling shadow", "own shadow", "one/two/three point perspective", "composition", and others!
We will move step by step: applying at each new lesson the knowledge and skills acquired at previous lessons. And, of course, we will draw 10 images applying obtained knowledge and skills!

FOR WHOM THIS COURSE

  • This course is ideal for children, teenagers, and even adults, who feel a live interest to start drawing realistically (usually that starts from 8 y.o.) but who don’t know where to start.
  • This course is for those who wants to learn the basis of visual arts and who possibly don’t want to buy all the possible art materials straightaway. For this course, we will need only dense paper for a printer, quality lead pencils, and a rubber.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Any project in visual arts begins from an idea and its sketch. Using a drawing as a basis, we can create a fine art object in any technique and material. It is practically impossible to be successful in other areas of visual arts (painting, graphics, sculpture, architecture, design, etc.) without knowing basics of drawing.

On this course, pupils will get fundamental knowledge which will allow them to visualize any of their ideas.

MATERIALS FOR THIS COURSE

  • Dense white smooth sheets of A4 format – minimum 15 sheets. Paper for a printer would suite, or more dense paper for drawing (with a density from 160GSM).
  • 1 tinted sheet of A4 format (optional – a white one can also be used)
  • Lead pencils of different hardness-softness. Minimum requirements: pencils with label: «Н»/«2Н», «НВ», «2В» and «6В»/«8В»
  • Rubber band: rectangular, white
  • Rolling pin, elder children can use a sharp stationery knife
  • White paper napkins
